When the University of York was founded in October 1963, there were just 230 students and 23 employees on staff. The University of York saw an increase in undergraduate enrollment to 2,500 students by the end of the 1970s. By the 1970s, the University of York had 3 laboratories in addition to 5 colleges. There are currently 22,000+ students studying at the University of York, who come from 150 different countries. The University of York has been enhancing and expanding its campus ever since it was founded. It is situated in Heslington in the middle of parkland. The East Campus covers 117 hectares of land, while the Heslington campus occupies 500 acres.

These colleges are Alcuin College, Anne Lister College, Constantine College, David Kato College, Derwent College, Goodricke College, Halifax College, James College, Langwith College, Vanbrugh College, and Wentworth College. Each of these colleges offers students housing options in the form of shared, ensuite, catered, or self-catered housing, with varying costs. The offered stay for undergraduates is 40–44 weeks, or one academic year.

University of York International Student Admissions

To be admitted to the university, international students must meet a number of prerequisites, including English language competence tests. For students in India, the XII grade English language proficiency requirement is 75%.

Basic Admission Requirements:

  • All the academic records/transcripts from the previously attended institution(s).
  • The last college attended transcript in English
    • Sent directly from the issuing institute a stamped and sealed envelope.
    • Along with the certified English translation, any official transcripts that are not in English must be submitted.
  • Proof of English proficiency for non-native English speakers.
  • At least 2 Letter of Recommendation from the home university
  • Provide an English Language Certificate
  • An updated resume consisting of professional experience and educational qualifications.
  • Departmental requirements: In addition to the general admission requirements, some departments require a separate departmental application, video interview, essay, etc.
