An institution of mechanics, the University of Bradford was established in 1832 and is now an open university. The plate-glass university became the 40th university to be founded in England in 1966 after receiving its formal registration. The institution, which has a history dating back to the early 19th century, currently has two campuses at Emm Lane and Richmond Road. Bradford has also been named the United Kingdom's City of Culture 2025. Bradford, one of the youngest cities in the UK, now has the chance to communicate with the rest of the world in its own words.
The institution, which is located in West Yorkshire's Bradford district, educates more than 8,000 undergraduate and 2,900 postgraduate students, 15% of whom are international and represent more than 150 different nations. More than 14,400 UCAS applications were submitted to the institution in 2010, and 3,421 of them were accepted.
The University of Bradford has been named one of the top universities in the world for Employability, Student Welcome Experience, Value for Money, and Student Life in the recently released International Student Barometer 2021 results. The University of Bradford was ranked first (#1) in the UK and globally for its Careers and Employability Service, first (#1) in the UK and globally for both training and support, as well as the overall arrival experience, first (#1) in the UK and second (#2) globally for work placements, and first (#1) in the UK and second (#2) globally for its visa advice out of 18 UK higher education institutions and 96 higher education institutions worldwide. In the categories of pre-arrival information, careers fairs, networking opportunities, and possibilities to network with alumni, the university was named first (#1) in the UK. On the official university website, the study's findings are detailed.
The university offers five faculties, which were formerly known as schools but were renamed in 2014 after becoming sub-units. On the city campus, four of the five faculties are located. Engineering & Informatics, Computing, Informatics and Media, Engineering, Design & Technology, Health Studies, Life Sciences, Management, Law & Social Science, and Social and International Studies are some of these faculties. Additionally, it established the world's largest university centre for peace studies in 1973, becoming the first British university to do so.
The University of Bradford Students' Union, or UBU, is the student organisation run by the university. The union provides various clubs and groups, counselling services, and sporting events. The union is housed at the campus' Student Central building, which is flanked by shops and restaurants. Additionally, there is a Blackwell bookstore on campus where students can purchase books and stationery. It also operates Ramair, one of the oldest student radio stations in the nation, which is a radio station. Additionally, it publishes the Bradford Student Cinema, a student newspaper.
Numerous students who were successfully graduated from the institution are now actively contributing to the growth of many facets of society. Melih Abdulhayoglu, the founder and CEO of Comodo Group, Rinchinnyamyn Amarjargal, the former prime minister of Mongolia, Nick Baines, a broadcaster and a bishop of Bradford and Leeds, Amjad Bashir, a conservative member of the European Parliament, and John Beaman are a few of the well-known individuals (Channel Islands politician).
The university now maintains two campuses located at Emm Lane and on Richmond Road named Main City Campus and Emm Lane Campus
Bradford sits at the heart of some of Britain's most spectacular and dramatic sceneries.
The main campus of Bradford University is within walking distance to the center of town. Leeds, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield are less than an hour's drive apart, supported by an outstanding public transport network. The rural area is within walking distance from the City Center.
For first year students who make Bradford their first choice, accommodation is guaranteed; applications must be made by the stated deadline.
Accommodation is at the Green, the student village built with a budget of £40 million based on the City campus planned for an environmentally sustainable living. At the College and University Business Officers Awards, as well as the world's most environmentally friendly building, it has been voted the best accommodation in UK.
Alternate rooms are available in private quarters, conventional student houses, and near-university apartments.
