Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is a public university located in the UK city of Nottingham.
The university dates back to 1843 when it opened as the Nottingham Government School of Design. It became a polytechnic in 1970, and was granted university status in 1992.
With the motto ‘shaping futures’, NTU offers over 500 different degree programmes to around 27,000 students across three campuses (City, Clifton and Brackenhurst), overseen by nine different academic schools.
The university prides itself on its global outlook, with almost 7,000 of its students studying overseas at partner colleges and around 2,600 international students enrolled at its Nottingham sites.
Additionally, the university hosts a Global Week event each year that celebrates cultural diversity in a five day festival of food, music, dance, cinema and drama.
NTU has been awarded Green Flags for the sustainability of its Brackenhurst and Clifton campuses while the People & Planet Green League recently ranked it one of the most environmentally friendly universities in the UK.
A £350 million investment in recent years has led to significant developments in NTU’s estate, including the regeneration of two Grade II* listed buildings, Newton and Arkwright, which include a glazed centre court with walk-round balcony, cafes, deli-bars and student services.
The quadrangle on campus, located next to the building where silicone was invented by Frederick Kipping, provides a quiet space for students to work and relax.
Outside of the university grounds, Nottingham is a vibrant city known for its shopping, rich culture and history, nightlife and sport.
According to the 2015 Student Living Index, NTU is ranked as the third most cost-effective university in the UK.
