Cardiff Metropolitan University was originally founded in 1865 as the Cardiff School of Art & Design, and in 2011 became an independent University of Wales.

Cardiff Metropolitan University has about 13,000 students coming from over 130 countries.

It has been ranked a number of times as the top new university in Wales in recent years. Cardiff Met was ranked the best post-1992 university in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. 80% of the research submitted by the University was rated as 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent.'

The University also enjoys close ties with industry and international universities such as the Samsung Art & Design Institute and the International College of Business and Technology in Sri Lanka and the London School of Commerce.

The university focuses on employment prospects and has a graduate employment rate of 95.6%, the highest in Wales.

Cardiff Metropolitan University has three major campuses: the Cyncoed Campus, the Llandaff Campus and the Plas Gwyn Suburban Campus, all within 5 kilometers of Cardiff City Centre.
