The University of Birmingham City (BCU) was initially known as Birmingham College of Art and was founded in 1843.
In 1971, it was founded as a polytechnic and in 1992 it was recognized as a university. It is the second largest of the five universities in the region. In 2007 it was renamed the University of Birmingham City as a result of the pride and dedication of the university to the city.
According to the complete university guide, it is the second largest of five universities in the city and the third of the five. It has around 24,000 students from 80 countries.Its strengths are in the creative and performing arts.
University has two main campuses that include courses in the fields of art and design, business, the built environment ,computing, education, engineering, English, healthcare, law, social sciences, technology and the performing arts.
Center Campus is composed of five buildings, The Joseph Priestley and The Royal Birmingham Conservatories: The Curzons, Millennium Point andThe Parkside House.
The City South Campus comprises three houses: the Seacole Tower, the Bevan House and the Ravensbury House. It consists of 3 schools.Faculty of Health is located at the Edgbaston South Campus, in southern City Centre.
