In 1987, the institute's name was changed to The Waikato Polytechnic as the scope of its academic activities grew. In 1992, it offered its first bachelor's degree, and in 2001, it was awarded its current name. Currently, this government-run institution provides high-quality tertiary education and is continually expanding to suit today's students' increasing academic demands.
