College Info

Southern Institute of Technology is a public institute and one of New Zealand's largest technical institutes. SIT was founded in 1971 and quickly became known for its Zero Fees Scheme. As a result, overseas students' tuition fees are kept low and affordable. The institute offers a variety of certificate and postgraduate programmes, as well as pathway courses in several specialisations.

All New Zealand citizens and permanent residents admitted to SIT are eligible for a tuition-free education, saving them money on big loan fees after graduation. Following the success of the programme with citizens and permanent residents, it has now been expanded to international students. Under the initiative, international students can take Zero Fees English and Zero Fees Foundation courses at no additional cost. The alumni organisation at SIT connects graduates with their peers while also providing them with additional benefits. SIT has six locations in New Zealand.

Invercargill is the primary campus, with five satellite campuses in Gore, Queenstown, Christchurch, Telford, and Auckland. The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) took over the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand (MAINZ) in 2018, which had been running under the auspices of Auckland. In the year 2020, the institute plans to open a new campus at St. Johns Church. The institute has spent more than $5.5 million on campus improvements and continues to do so. The Southern Institute of Technology is divided into nine schools or departments, each of which offers courses and degrees. A programme in Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing is offered by the Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing department. The fields of business and communication have merged. Human Resources and Coaching, Marketing and Management, and Business and Commerce

Students interested in Audio Production, Music, Fashion, Film and Animation, and Visual Arts can apply to the Creative Industries Department. Agriculture and Floristry, Environmental Management, and Veterinary Nursing and Animal Care are all part of the Environmental and Life Sciences department. Nursing and Health Science, Massage Therapy, Social Services, Mental Health, and Sport and Exercise courses are offered by the Health, Massage Therapy, Social Services, Sport and Exercise Department. Hospitality, Hotel Management, Tourism, and Travel programmes prepare students for careers in the hospitality, hotel management, tourism, and travel industries. Information Technology and Maori Language and Arts are the final two departments. Trades, Trade School Programs, and SIT2LRN Study Anywhere, a distance education programme, are among the other departments.
