Lying at the cross-roads of the Mediterranean, University of Malta (UM) has been, over its 400-year history, the hub for international academic exchange on the island. University of Malta is the leading higher education institution in Malta and its structures are in line with the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education area.

The University of Malta  seeks to carry out academic research and provide a vibrant higher education setting in the arts, sciences and the humanities as required for Malta’s economic, social and cultural development. The courses at University of Malta(UM) are designed to produce highly-qualified professionals in multiple disciplines. The University of Malta(UM) alumni community is growing exponentially: well over 3,500 students graduate in various disciplines annually.

The total floor area occupied by the (Main) University Library building, situated at the Msida Campus is between 5,000 and 6,000 square metres. A collection of nearly one million volumes is housed throughout the Main Library, Branches and Institutes. The University Library currently subscribes to over 60,000 e-journals, 196 print journal titles and 16,554 e-books.

Eligibility for Student Visas
The eligibility requirements for student visas are relatively straightforward, but there is a long list of pieces of documentation required in order to receive a visa. Some of these are:

• an original passport recognized by the government of Malta
• a copy of specific data or informational pages
• a passport photo
• one signed student visa application form
• an invitation or official course confirmation letter from the school the student plans to attend
• proof of payment of coursework planned
• an official declaration from the school or college in favor of the student applying
• verification of current address
• other information upon request

Because of the large amount of detailed documentation required by the Immigration Department in Malta, it is important that students gather all of this information several weeks or months prior to planning to attend, so that nothing will be missing that could hold up the process. As long as the paperwork is in order, a student visa is usually granted without further delay.
