A non-denominational organisation called York University was founded in 1959 as a result of the York University Act. It ranks third among Canada's largest institutions and broke away from the University of Toronto in 1965 to become an autonomous institution.
The York Board of Governor decided that Glendon College would be a residential college when York University first opened. The institution had previously placed a strong emphasis on liberal arts and scientific education, but by the late 1960s, it had made room for three new faculties, including those of education, engineering, and medical. Around 55,700 students and 7,000 faculty members and staff call York University home today.
The main site of York University is the Keele Campus, which is situated in Toronto. The university's two campuses take up a total of 500 acres. Glendon Campus is the name of the other campus. Even Seneca College has a satellite campus there. There are two further campuses of the institution, Markham Centre and Glendon.
In addition to its 11 faculties, York University is home to 28 research centres, including the Schulich School of Business, the Lassonde School of Engineering, the Glendon College of Education, the Osgoode Hall Law School, the Faculty of Health, the Faculty of Environmental Studies, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design.
Numerous York University programmes have received both local and global attention. Students looking for fulfilling employment have a fantastic opportunity thanks to the university's interdisciplinary programming and cutting-edge educational options.
The University for Undergraduates offers students a wide range of degree possibilities with about 120 programmes and 17 different degree kinds. It is one of the few colleges that allows applicants to postpone their acceptance for a year in the event of financial hardship or employment-related issues. There are more than 300,000 university graduates worldwide. Well-known Canadian astronaut Steven Glenwood MacLean received his education at York University. Graduates of York University have achieved renowned distinction in a variety of professions.
