In Windsor, Canada, there is a public institution called the University of Windsor. Assumption College, the initial forerunner of the current institution, was a tiny liberal arts college that was founded in 1857 under the name of the University of Windsor. In 1963, the colleges of Essex College, Canterbury College, Iona College, and Holy Redeemer College united to form the University of Windsor. The University of Windsor became the first independent degree-granting institution in southwest Ontario on July 1, 1963.
Windsor University is one of the first institutions in Canada and is an AACSB-accredited institution. The University of Windsor received rankings in the range of 601 to 800 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2022. The University of Windsor was ranked between 701 and 750 in the QS World University Rankings for 2022, and between 751 and 800 in the QS World University Ranking for 2023.
Along the Detroit River is where Windsor University's campus is situated. It is a 51-hectare urban campus in Windsor, Ontario. A $112 million "Center for Engineering Innovation" opened its doors to pupils in 2012. The Armouries' neighbour and final piece of the arts district is the recently constructed Aland Wildman Center for Creative Arts. The University of Windsor comprises nine faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Law; Education; Nursing; Engineering; Business; Graduate Studies; Human Kinetics; and Science. It provides 190 undergraduate degrees, 65 graduate programmes, and 6 professional programmes. The "EPICenter" is a unique facility for students at the University of Windsor. The University of Windsor campus' EPICentre serves as the focal point for all entrepreneurial activities. This centre provides tools, resources, mentorship, and financing to assist its students in their entrepreneurial journeys.
At Windsor University, there are 16,321 full- and part-time students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programmes in 2021–2022. International students, who come from about 100 different countries, make up almost 23% of the entire student body. For its 16,000+ students, the University of Windsor has 524 faculty members.
Alumni Hall, Cartier Hall, and Laurier Hall are the three residences available to students at the University of Windsor. On Windsor's west side and near the city centre is Windsor University, a medium-sized campus. There are many things to discover outside of the classroom, including a wide range of eateries, welcoming stores, and a wide array of cultural programmes. Double and single rooms are available in Alumni Hall and Cartier Hall, both of which include communal kitchens and bathrooms either on the floor or in the suite. Students at Laurier Hall can live in a single room with shared bathrooms and common areas on each floor.
For the academic year 2022–2023, the residence price for a single room at Alumni Hall is $8,907, and for a double room at Cartier Hall, it is $8,398. The residence price for single and double rooms in Laurier Hall is $7,989 and $6,729, respectively. The meal plan is required for students living in residence. A Meal plan will cost a minimum of $2,675 (per semester), a Light Meal Plan $2,825 (per semester), and a Full Meal Plan $2,925 (per semester) (per semester).
There are more than 135,000 alumni from the University of Windsor who are currently employed all over the world. Among many others, the University of Windsor has produced some of the most well-known alumni, including businessman Sergio Marchionne, politician Navdeep Bains, and politician Manmeet Singh Bhullar.
