St. Francis Xavier University Highlights

College Info

St. Francis Xavier University was founded in 1853 and is an open university that belongs to Universities Canada, the Canadian Bureau for International Education, the International Association of Universities, the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate, and Canadian University Press. It is well known that the university belongs to the Maple League. Studies in the liberal arts are the main focus. It was once known as the Arichat College. In 1855, the university's name was changed to its present one, and in 1866 it was given university status.

The university started awarding degrees in 1868. The renowned architect Henry Frederick Busch created and constructed the university's infrastructure. When the university started accepting female students and switched to being a coeducational institution, the number of students grew. The Board of Governors oversees and governs the university.

The university's campus is home to seven residence halls: Bishops' Hall's Fraser Houses, Cameron Hall's MacPherson, Cameron Hall's MacDonald, MacKinnon Hall's Chillis and MacNeil Houses, MacIsaac Hall's Lane Hall, O'Regan Hall's Riley Hall's, and Bishops' Hall's MacIsaac Houses. All necessary facilities are offered to the students on campus. They discover a serene studying atmosphere. Two apartment-style residences are also available on campus: Somers and Power Halls and Governors Hall.

A fitness and wellness facility, a number of clubs for extracurricular activities, sports facilities, football fields, and an auditorium are located on the site. All of the university's sporting events, annual gatherings, inter-college seminars, tests, activities, and festivals take place on the campus. Numerous thousands of magazines, books, journals, and research papers are kept in the university library. Numerous pharmacies, office supply stores, and other stores are located close to the campus. Additionally close to the school are a number of cafes and restaurants. Public transportation is conveniently accessible from the site.

Both undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at the university. There are roughly 3,895 students enrolled. 3,884 students are enrolled in the undergraduate programme, while over 101 are in the graduate programme. Four faculties make up the university's academic structure: the faculties of the arts, of education, of science, and of business. There are various departments in each faculty. Courses including Fine Arts, Anthropology, Economics, Humanities, Philosophy, Political Science, and Development Studies are offered by the Faculty of Arts. Biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, aquatic resources, and engineering are all available under the faculty of science. Information Systems, Management, Finance, and Marketing are all included in the business faculty. Degrees in Adult Education are available from the Faculty of Education. The knowledgeable professors teach the students.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Canadian politician Allan MacEachen, renowned businessman Frank McKenna, television personality Seamus O'Regan, CEO of NRStor Inc. Annette Verschuren, politician Lisa Raitt, novelist Alistair MacLeod, sportscaster Danny Gallivan, musician Mary Jane Lamond, and actor Linden MacIntyre are among the notable alumni of the university (Renowned Journalist).
