In Canada's Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University is a public university. George Ramsay, the ninth Earl of Dalhousie and the Lieutenant General of Nova Scotia, founded it in 1818. One of the best universities in Canada, Dalhousie University has won awards for both its research and teaching on a global scale. A campus made up of buildings for the school is dispersed throughout the city. One of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Canada is this one.
The university is ranked 308 internationally and 12th among Canadian universities in the QS World University Ranking 2022. The institution offers a wide range of academic programmes, including those in the humanities, sciences, engineering, nursing, medicine, and dentistry. They also offer graduate programmes in law, teaching, and business administration, among other fields. Around September is when undergraduate programme admissions begin. The university also provides over 40 doctoral degree programmes and over 90 master's degree programmes.
There are two campuses for the university—one in Halifax and one in Truro. Both on- and off-campus housing is preferred by students. Both conventional and unconventional home designs are offered in Halifax and Truro. Howe Hall, Shirreff Hall, Risley Hall, and O'Brien Hall all have dining areas. Both students and staff members use the numerous gardens and green areas on the Dalhousie campus. Due to the chilly weather in the winter, the university also offers a shuttle service to transport students from their residence halls to the main campus building.
The university also includes a superb library with a range of amenities like round-the-clock study rooms, group study areas, and access to internet databases. With more than a million books, Killam Memorial Library is the largest library in Atlantic Canada.
On-campus organisations and clubs are offered to assist international students, members of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community, native students, residents, students of various religions, etc. Over $5 million in scholarships, awards, bursaries, and prizes are given to deserving Dalhousie University students each year. Year 3 Entry Awards, In-Course Scholarships, Irving Oil Scholarships, etc. are a few of the significant scholarships that are offered.
