Algonquin College is one of Canada’s largest colleges with over 300 programs of study and 20,000 full time students. The College proudly nurtures a friendly, student-oriented atmosphere. Students come to Algonquin College from around the world to study English, take second and third year courses within their area of specialization, and to pursue customized skills upgrading and training programs.

International students experience the Canadian approach to an applied education by studying, working and collaborating with Algonquin College students and faculty in learning, teaching and research. Algonquin College is internationally recognized for diverse areas of studies that answer to the needs of today’s employment market. The focus is on applied studies that allows students to gain applied skills as well as practical experience. A student-centric approach helps promotes success through hands-on, experiential teaching, comprehensive resources, diverse support services, and dedicated faculty and staff. Pembroke Campus

Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley is located in Pembroke, on the banks of the Ottawa River. Pembroke is a gateway to Algonquin Provincial Park and is surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of natural areas, forests and waterways. Pembroke is home to world-class whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, boating, camping and hiking.

Algonquin College Heritage Institute’s campus is located just one hour from Ottawa in the historic Town of Perth.  Perth is only minutes away from provincial and municipal parks and the Tay River for summer and winter activities.

Teaching Quality

The mission of the TLAG  (Teaching and Learning Advisory Group is to advise Learning and Teaching Services (LTS) and the Chairs’ Council on how to foster teaching excellence by researching and addressing faculty training and professional development needs at Algonquin College.

TLAG was formed in the winter of 2019 as a response to faculty who wanted more input into how teaching is taught at Algonquin and for the Academic Development team who wanted more  input from the academic areas into the direction of teaching at Algonquin College.

The group, comprised of faculty from throughout the college, has met monthly over the winter and spring. The last meeting of the year is in June, and the group is looking forward to reconvening for the 2019-2020 year in September.  Despite being a new group, the members have already planned some exciting initiatives for fall 2019 and beyond to start to gather information on professors’ teaching development needs and more.  In the fall, the group plans to start defining key terms related to teaching, generating enthusiasm for teaching initiatives around the college and addressing more specific teacher training needs (i.e.: online teaching, teaching in diverse classrooms, etc.)

• Being the first Canadian College to sign the Talloires Declaration, the institute is highly committed towards a sustainable future and has taken up multiple energy savings contracts in Ottawa to control greenhouse gas product conservation.
• It has its own Entrepreneurship and Learning Centre to help students develop managerial skills.
• It has a dedicated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum-certified building which exhibits a teaching laboratory for best practices in sustainable construction.

Algonquin College English Language Requirements:

• Postsecondary Certificate or Diploma Program (1/2/3 years) – Academic IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.0 (with no single test score below 6.0.
• Postsecondary Bachelor’s Degree Program (4 years) – Academic IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.5 (with no single test score below 6.0).
• Post Graduate Certificate Program (1 year) – Academic IELTS with an overall minimum score of 6.5 (with no single test score below 6.0).
