The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) was founded in 1989 and is a public university with a strong emphasis on learning and research. It was first established as Brisbane School of Arts in 1849. A 1988 Act gave it university status, giving it that status today. It is affiliated with the Australian Technology Network and the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) (ATN). Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners includes QUT as a major partner. There are three campuses where QUT offers educational programmes: two in Brisbane and one in Canberra. Within the Creative Industries Precinct, there are a number of exhibition venues, including the Roundhouse Theatre, an experimental black-box theatre. The institution conducts master's programmes in business on a single floor in Equinox Business Park at a modest campus in the Deakin neighbourhood of Canberra. The three libraries at QUT, which house a sizable collection of books, journals, records, and other publications, offer specialised assistance to academic staff, students, and researchers.
